Workshop with Márcio Carvalho
February 18, 2014 5pm-9pm
and February 25th 3pm-9pm
55 Norfolk St.
This 2 days workshop will provide an investigation into the typologies of performance art, today's circulation of performative values and how documentation is performing its own history.
“The sense of the photograph as not only representationally accurate but ontologically connected to the real world allows it to be treated as a piece of the real world”*
Participants will produce practical work in relation to critical texts about the autonomy and authority of performance art documentation, and its influence onto performative forms. The workshop will present The Dictionary of Taxonomic Values of Performance Art produced by Shannon Cochrane and Márcio Carvalho as a starting point for looking at forms and patterns produced by this form of art. Practical exercises combined with a possible history of performance art objects and actions will allow participants to reflect on the ways by which performance images and discourse is being disseminated and authorized by its images and formats. The workshop will culminate into a final presentation of its possible outcomes, that will be integrated into LIFE LIVE Performance Art Festival.
